One of the great things about traveling across the country is fast food. Yes, although most of us won't admit it, we
love those tasty burgers and tacos; they're scrumptious, however, loaded with enough sodium to cause salt toxicosis
in your bird. If you're bird gets ill from fast food, remember you're miles from a familiar veterinarian. Say NO to
fast food for your pet birds…
Always carry a supply of bottled water. You know what happens when we travel; water for some reason always seems to
taste different than water from your home town. While the water is certainly safe to drink it may upset the system
of a bird not use to traveling. Of course once you get to your final destination, gradually introduce your bird to
the local water.
Of course an alternative to water while in movement is juice. Since birds drink very little water, the juice from
fruits and vegetables are a good temporary substitute.
So you think we are two...guess again! Hey I have a twin...weird See...birds can be paper trained too!!! What the heck is that over my shoulder...scary bird!
Hi Val,
How are you enjoying the summer? It's been a lot of rain down here...lol.
I did make it to Magic Mountain once this summer though. Mcawlie is doing awesome...little miss piggy!!!!
She can eat. Lol... I am now teaching her or hoping she will learn the ring toss game she loves to
chew the rings...or swing on them if I hold them,
I made her bed and she used
it but it was my first attempt and it was too big I got the idea of a macaw dream bed site. Anyway have a
great weekend.
Billie
Our pairs are enjoying a very well deserved hiatus. We look forward to the
start of our 2011 breeding season and will be opening our nest boxes on March 1, 2011. Please stay tuned for
further news, updates as baby Black Headed Caiques, Orange Belly Senegals, Quakers, Timneh African Greys,
Yellow Crowned Amazons, Lilac Crowned Amazons, Blue & Gold Macaws, and hopefully this year Severe Macaw babies
as they become available.
We feed our babies Pretty Bird Natural Gold pellets, steamed & fresh raw veggies, daily fruit salad,
pineapple/carrot birdy bread and our very own line of Cuckoo's
Cuisine Mashes along with their daily portion of seed. The fids grow like weeds and are allowed
to fly daily to exercise their wings. They all get daily one on one attention along with playing and
exploring.
Watch the video of the Blue & Gold Macaw babies with Mom right after a feeding...enjoy!
Cuckoo's Cuisine products have been developed with all parrots
in mind. We have taken the last few years to develop a nutritious all natural formula, with no preservatives,
free of dyes, ethoxyquin, and sulfites, that is truly enjoyed by not just one or two, but all of our birds.
Parrots for the most part are self-centered, with a "me first" mentality. Sharing your life with a parrot is a
very serious decision; one that should be made with much care and consideration. You should never buy a bird on
impulse. Put some thought into your decision, do some research, ask questions, read books, search the Internet.
Hi Val!
On the Morning of Tuesday
7th of July, I woke
up to the yelling of
our new baby Quaker
Casey...at first I
tried to ignore him...but,
he
wouldn't stop...he
got louder and more
insistent...I wasn't
too impressed, I'd
been checking new puppies
every two hours all
night, and it was 1/2
hour before I had to
check again, so, I
dragged my butt out
of bed, opened the
bedroom door....Oh
my god!!!!! Dense,
thick Smoke...and Stinky
burning smell! ......
I yelled to Hubby Jim
to get up, and started
trying to find the
source...The heat lamp
had fallen in the playpen
in the living room
with the four pups
and Mum. Bits of the
playpen were smouldering
around the light fixture
in a charred circle...falling
onto the carpet and
smouldering. I grabbed
the pups in my t-shirt,
let mum out in the
yard, and Jim threw
the whole starting
to burn mess outside
in the yard. Casey
is a hero...he saved
all of us, and the
pups, momma and house!
